Ethnocentrism. As mentioned, I
always thought this was an anthropological kind of issue and when I was reading
about how it could possibly pertain to writing and reading I thought it was
kind of strange. HOWEVER I think that this is a kind of weird way of saying you
need to experience certain things in life to really be able to express them in
words.
In short I feel like the goal was to show how perspective could give you
a better idea of what you are writing about given the different point of view.
I sure hope that made sense because I also am still wrapping my head around it.
Kind of a real life compare and contrast but instead of comparing two opinions
or viewpoints you are comparing yours hands on experience with that of a second
hand source? I believe that is actually what I meant.
Being able to compare and
contrast your life and that of another basing it off of what you have learned
in life is the key really to writing in an ethnocentric kid of way. But viewing
yourself as the primary source of information that is both important and
correct in your eyes as a writer. The purest form of human culture interconnecting with writing.
I love the layouts of your journals it really shows your creativity!!! I like your personal insight on how to connect the reading to your own life. Your idea of different points of view makes sense to me! I am super impressed by your reflections!!!
